This CREW cover is listed here because it was not a ship and Mr. Beck did not assign a cachet number to Cape Canaveral.  Therefore we have no idea which batch of covers Mr. Beck included this CREW cover with.

This could be a one-of-a-kind cover.

Cover 456 was scheduled for USS Holder. Ships name does not appear in the cachet for space issues after Beck cover 79.

Only one B456 ever observed with USS Lake Champlain cancel.

Very scarce space cover.  This was one of Beck's early space covers. Beck's cover log does not specifically list how many "CREW" covers were printed, but for later space flights he produced about 25 envelopes without the cachet number for each ship or cachet number.  For some flights he knew the names of the ships but for later flights, he was only told how many ships were expected to participate.

We have only seen a few examples of this cover.

One example sold on eBay for $47.30 in February 2006.  This was a good price.  We estimate the value at more like $100-125.

Beck Trivia:
Cover 502 was originally scheduled for USS Southerland DD-743 but he changed it to the America commissioning once he received details of USS America.

This is a very popular commissioning cover for USS America.  Over the years, tens of thousands of sailors served on this ship.  With that many sailors, it makes for a high demand for this cover.  The same is true for most ships that have a large crew.
